Arise2Read/Team Read connects adult volunteers with second graders in our public schools to advance literacy by teaching sight words. Sight word recognition is a crucial factor in learning to read. If a student is able to read on grade level by third grade, they have an 89% chance of graduating from high school. Conversely, if they do not read on grade level by fourth grade, 2 out of 3 will end up on welfare or in prison.
We've partnered with West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation to raise awareness of the literacy crisis we have in Jackson and Madison County.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 by September 1, 2019 to effectively continue our program for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year.
